Overview
The Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of equipment in the Central Energy Plant. The Operator must perform the duties with the highest level of professionalism, while meeting the clients' needs, and a commitment to achieving the goal of 100% uptime. The Operator will protect and improve the value of the client's assets and ensure that building engineering systems continue to perform their intended function.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Understand and comply with all Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) programs and procedures
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain high-pressure steam and hot water boilers to ensure in full compliance with the manufacturer's recommendations and applicable permits/regulations
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain site steam turbine centrifugal chillers and related functional equipment to ensure reliability, efficiency and compliance with the manufacturer's recommendations
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain of Cogen Plant which includes 2 turbines generating electricity and steam
- Monitor water and perform testing, treatment and associated chemical usage for the boilers ensuring compliance with the site water safety management plan
- Operate control room for immediate response and corrective action to alarm conditions on a 24hr 7day basis (backup support available)
- Monitor building automation systems and Utilities monitoring systems to ensure proper operation of the Boiler and Chiller plants as well as air handling equipment
- Document and record all activity as accurately as required
- Monitor fuel storage systems and maintain usage logs and reports for various utilities in compliance with all applicable permits and regulations
- Review, understand and follow site operations procedures for equipment
- Write reports documenting incidents and equipment failures
- Responds and provides service and feedback to the CEP Chief Engineer complying with codes, regulations and industry standards
- Reacts to emergency situations and performs emergency shutdowns as necessary
- Interacts professionally and efficiently with other members of the operations team on a routine basis
- Reads and understands repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams
- Maintains and monitors subcontractor activities
- Aids craft technicians in other facility maintenance trades and services as necessary
Skills/Qualifications
- High School graduate or GED
- Operator B: Licensed operator (3rd Class engineer) who has less than a 2nd Class Engineer's license
- Making progress toward a 2nd Class Engineer's License on a schedule mutually agreeable between Employee and the Company
- Operator A: Licensed engineer who has fewer than 10 years of prior experience in a plant similar to the Pfizer plant, and who has not less than a 2nd Class Engineer's License
- Senior Operator: Licensed engineer who has 10 or more years of prior experience in a plant similar to the Pfizer plant, and who has no less than a 2nd Class Engineer's License
- Demonstrated technical expertise in energy plant related systems
- Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office and CMMS systems
- Demonstrated verbal/written communication skills
- Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service
Other Work Details
- Work Schedule: This position follows a 3-4-3 schedule with 4:00 am to 4:00 pm work hours
