Center Supervisor
Under the supervision of the Program Manager for the Helping Hands of Lompoc Wellness Center (H2L), the Center Supervisor oversees trauma-informed supervision and coordination of staff, programs, and facilities that provide wellness, recovery support, education, and social rehabilitation day programs for adults with mental illness. This role directs the Wellness Center’s operations to assist adults in their mental health wellness and recovery journey while connecting members to their community. The Center Supervisor develops and maintains consumer-driven services that empower individuals in recovery, fostering self-respect, dignity, and self-determination. This position may assume program duties in the absence of the Program Manager and promotes wellness, recovery, empowerment, and advocacy for members. The role requires knowledge and skills in all aspects of the Wellness Center and upholds the Center’s philosophy as well as that of TMHA, focusing on the individual’s journey to wellness through education, empowerment, and support.
Responsibilities
- Implement and ensure social rehabilitation standards and philosophy, promoting mental health recovery tenets: Hope, Personal Responsibility, Self-Advocacy, Education, and Support. Shift focus from symptom control to prevention and recovery.
- Tailor services for multiple age groups and cultures, emphasizing mental health recovery, independence, advocacy, and empowerment. Ensure the Wellness Center offers social support, skills training, recreation activities, and independent living skill development based on member feedback.
- Encourage members to take an active role in center operations, facilitate peer-run activities, leadership opportunities (e.g., paid activities, outreach events, presentations), and include members in program decision-making.
- Represent management positively, uphold agency policies, and direct questions or issues to management for resolution.
- Hire, train, supervise, and develop program staff, interns, and volunteers in coordination with the Program Manager, including interviews, evaluations, consultations, terminations, and scheduling.
- Provide curriculum-based groups and workshops in English and Spanish (if bilingual) on topics such as prevocational skills, goal setting, social skills, self-expression, critical thinking, budgeting, coping skills, symptom education, recreation, physical health, problem-solving, nutrition, depression, anxiety, self-awareness, teamwork, money management, cultural awareness, interpersonal skills, meditation, relaxation, and self-esteem.
- Ensure accurate completion of program-related paperwork, record-keeping, and budget oversight, including time sheets, monthly data input, petty cash, attendance forms, RAMP card use, food/material inventory, and weekly purchases. Ensure compliance with TMHA Finance policies.
- Track and record weekly program intakes, referrals, member admissions, attendance, and demographic statistics. Ensure weekly uploads comply with County protocols, HIPAA confidentiality standards, and record-keeping requirements. Submit monthly data reports to the Performance Outcomes Evaluator.
- Conduct weekly staff meetings and report significant program and member issues daily to the Program Manager. Attend required meetings and collaborate with peers, members, TMHA programs, the Department of Behavioral Wellness, and other agencies.
- Meet weekly with the Program Manager to discuss program issues, development, evaluation, and budget oversight.
- Review program compliance as a Medi-Cal billable site, adhere to agency standards, implement new policies, update compliance documentation, follow ethical standards, safety regulations, and submit records for program sites and vehicles.
- Create an inclusive, welcoming environment for staff, interns, volunteers, and members. Provide professional guidance, problem-solving, support, and coaching to the team to ensure productivity, contractual compliance, and growth.
- Promote and maintain trauma-informed practices in all services and activities. Practice and promote TMHA’s Collaborative Communication Guidelines for clear, empathetic, and person-centered communication.
- Participate in community outreach to educate about Wellness Center resources, eliminate mental health discrimination and stigma, and advocate for peer-run services.
- Promote program involvement in agency and community events (e.g., CFMAT meetings, TMHA holiday celebrations, Bowl-A-Thon, Opening Minds Art Show). Connect members to community resources, including transportation, volunteer opportunities, leadership roles, social activities, education, and training.
- Communicate with the Department of Behavioral Wellness, Lompoc FSP, Lompoc Housing Authority, and other agencies regarding client health and progress. Attend team meetings, regional social service provider meetings, CFMAT, and other agency meetings to collaborate and provide updates. Maintain positive relationships with the county for cooperative client recruitment.
- Ensure a clean, safe, healthy, and welcoming environment at the Lompoc Wellness Center.
- Provide timely, clear feedback (both positive and constructive) to staff, document when necessary, and remain approachable for staff communication. Assist with performance reviews.
- Complete required in-service training hours, attend all required meetings, and monitor staff completion of the same. Promote and facilitate additional training to meet program needs.
- Follow Medi-Cal documentation standards, complete assigned service documentation weekly, and train/support direct service staff who bill to Medi-Cal. Liaise with County Mental Health staff to maintain and update documentation standards and ensure timely billing.
- Conduct orientations, complete required Medi-Cal documentation, develop and update individualized SmartCare client care plans, and provide ongoing follow-up to monitor progress and support goal achievement. Develop and implement client discharge plans as needed.
- Meet Medi-Cal billing and documentation goals set by the Program Manager and Director, as this funding is critical to the program.
- Spend at least 50% of work time in direct service and support of clients, unless otherwise assigned by a supervisor.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Manager.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree and minimum six months of experience in a mental health/social service setting, or two years of experience in a mental health/social service setting.
- Lived experience as a consumer or family member of mental health services.
- Spanish bilingual/bicultural preferred.
- State-certified peer specialist preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style, and strong oral, written, and communication skills.
- Responsible, reliable, with problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Well-defined organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and flexibly.
- Ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision-making skills, and remain calm under pressure.

Pay
Anticipated hiring range: $25.00–$27.00 per hour (full salary schedule: $25.00–$28.00 per hour).
Schedule
Full-time, non-exempt position. 40 hours per week.
