Center of the Plate Buyer

About the role

Center of the Plate Buyer is a Senior Buyer level position specializing in procurement of proteins. The COP Buyer will focus on beef and pork; experience with any fresh protein will transfer.

Responsibilities

• Purchase fresh commodities such as boxed beef, fresh and frozen pork, ground beef, beef patties, cut steaks, and fresh and frozen lamb/veal
• Conduct daily date reviews on perishable items, place purchase orders according to vendor lead times, and monitor supply/demand and market conditions
• Select vendors based on their ability to provide continuous supply, overall service level, responsiveness to the market, product innovation, quality and value, relationships with competitors, and understanding of the marketplace
• Maintain vendor relationships by resolving problems with invoicing, product, or delivery to ensure quality service and longevity
• Select product based on application to the market, product performance, alternate sources of supply, and vendor reputation
• Negotiate prices and quantities based on customer orders, economic order point (volume discount vs. efficient utilization of warehousing space), promotions, and market conditions
• Negotiate long-term contracts based on the same considerations and need for continuous supply
• Service distribution centers for emergency situations by obtaining product and delivery on an expedited basis
• Provide product and pricing information to the sales force and make recommendations regarding pricing structure based on volume and margin considerations
• Coordinate and identify suppliers, negotiate price and quantity terms, and establish long-term contracts to ensure adequate supply of high-quality products at competitive prices
• Maintain established service levels for product in-stock
• Assist with special order requests and may assist with training
• Function as a team member within the department and organization and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of buying experience
• Experience working with a sense of urgency and consistent attention to detail
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
