Reporting to a Cement Mason Journeyman, the incumbent works with concrete by placing, finishing, protecting and repairing concrete in engineering, construction, and renovation projects. This position is represented by a Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Responsibilities
- Place, level, and finish concrete using power screed machine or by rodding with straight edge.
- Use hand tools such as bull floats, hand floats, and hand trowels.
- Operate gas-powered trowel machine, grinder, bushing machine, and other equipment.
- Place and finish on-grade concrete via slip-form paver.
- Spray curing and confirm compounds.
- Perform concrete spall and crack repair; remove and replace with rapid-set concrete.
- Make concrete joint repairs, crack chasing, and epoxy entrainment.
- Perform grouting by hand or pump.
- Wear a respirator when handling epoxy or cementitious materials.
- Comply with all safety practices and environmental regulations.
- Use computer-based timekeeping programs and MS Office products.
- Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- OSHA-10 card (Construction Industry).
- CPR/First-Aid card.
- ACI Certification – Flatwork finishes.
- Must meet eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain the required government Top Secret security clearance and access to the work location.
- Must pass pre-hire drug screening and Fit-for-Duty physical.
- Must be able to work in a remote location with limited medical personnel and facilities.
- Must bring: Social Security Card, original state-issued birth certificate or Naturalization Certificate, a valid driver’s license, and required certifications.
Skills
- Journeyman-level proficiency in concrete placement, leveling, and finishing.
- Experience with hand tools and power equipment for concrete work.
- Knowledge of slip-form paver operations.
- Experience in concrete spall, crack repair, joint repairs, and epoxy entrainment.
- Ability to perform grouting by hand or pump.
- Computer skills, including timekeeping programs and MS Office products.
- Ability to wear a respirator and comply with safety and environmental regulations.
Work Environment
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of 10 to 50 pounds of materials, supplies, and tools.
- Frequent pushing and pulling using one or both hands/arms, exerting up to 50 pounds of force.
- Occasional climbing and walking on rebar while performing work over forms.
- Constant kneeling, crouching, and crawling while installing and finishing cement/concrete surfaces.
- Constant use of both hands and arms for reaching, handling, grasping, and gripping tools.
- Constant use of near- and mid-range vision and hand/eye coordination.
- Frequent use of speech and hearing for instructions and information exchange.
