About the Role

RK&K's Construction Engineering Inspection and Construction Management Division is hiring a CEI Inspector to join our team in the Knoxville/Tri-Cities TN area. As a CEI Inspector, you will strengthen our Construction Engineering and Inspection team while performing routine inspections on projects including highway, bridge, design/design-build projects. Opportunities for growth and training into construction management and office engineering careers are available.

Responsibilities

  • Provide construction management support, including inspection, testing, and monitoring of construction to ensure compliance with contract documents
  • Fully engage in solving intermediate problems to provide evaluation and sound solutions
  • Monitor the activities of other inspectors
  • Communicate effectively across different platforms with project management, clients, stakeholders, and contractors
  • Interface with clients, state and federal agencies, and other engineering disciplines on construction projects
  • Handle recordkeeping, materials testing, and reporting as required
  • Train, coordinate, and supervise entry-level inspection technicians in the field
  • Travel to job sites as expected

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) or more years of progressive experience in roadway and structures construction
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and construction methods, materials, and equipment
  • Ability to understand, explain, and administer contracts; and interpret construction plans, provisions, standards, and specifications
  • Must possess high integrity and ethics in all aspects of dealing with clients, subconsultants, and peers
  • Clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skilled in both roadway and bridge construction
  • Survey experience
  • Required TDOT certifications

Physical Demands

This role requires the ability to perform field inspections on active construction sites. The employee must be able to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Navigate uneven terrain
  • Climb ladders or stairs
  • Lift and carry inspection equipment and materials weighing up to 20-30 pounds on an occasional basis, with or without reasonable accommodation

Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may include exposure to construction-related hazards.
