About the role

The Correctional Officer II position at Limon Correctional Facility (LCF) in Colorado is accountable for providing lead work/limited supervision responsibilities. This role involves coordinating the activities of others in regulating inmates, civilians, property, security, custody and control functions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide lead work guidance and training to assigned positions
  • Recommend assignments for correctional officers
  • Contribute to performance plans
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment through conscientious observation, clear communication, adherence to agency Administrative Regulations, facility Implementation Adjustments, and the Code of Penal Discipline
  • Enforce statutes, regulations, orders, directives, and procedures
  • Manage inmates' behavior and encourage personal accountability through effective and professional communication
  • Monitor and control access to the facility and restricted areas
  • Train and guide assigned staff on applying the proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment and chemicals
  • Enforce security procedures by conducting work-site searches, inmate counts, controlling unauthorized contraband, strip searches, cell searches, pat searches, and transportation
  • Respond to emergency situations such as fights, fires and escapes according to CDOC policy and prepare and submit required reports
  • May be required to seize, hold, control, and/or otherwise subdue violent, assaulting, or physically threatening persons which requires body strength and agility of all four limbs
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or a GED certificate
  • Two (2) years of corrections related experience, law enforcement patrol experience, or military experience
  • Substitution of college coursework may be considered on a year-for-year basis
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language
  • Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind

  • Corrections experience with the state of Colorado Department of Corrections

  • Experience with housing and security operations
  • Good computer skills
  • Experience in coaching or mentoring
