Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced CDL Driver to join our team. This position requires an individual with a strong driving background, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to support multiple construction and paving projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of heavy trucks, including those with and without trailers, ensuring safe transportation of materials and equipment to and from job sites.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, checking tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil, and water, and ensure the vehicle is roadworthy.
- Maintain accurate logs of working hours, mileage, and cargo, complying with state and federal regulations.
- Load, unload, and secure materials, ensuring safe handling of equipment and materials on site.
- Follow assigned routes and traffic regulations while adhering to the schedule.
- Report any issues with equipment or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Support the crew with general labor tasks when not driving, including traffic control, clearing work areas, and assisting with material placement.
- Communicate effectively with foremen and team members to coordinate deliveries, pick-ups, and site needs.
- Perform routine vehicle maintenance, including basic servicing such as fueling, lubrication, and minor repairs.
- Assist with various construction-related tasks, such as operating paving machines and clearing job sites upon project completion.
- Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime, as required by project schedules.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL (Class A or B) required; CDL Class A preferred.
- At least 2 years of commercial driving experience with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of federal motor carrier safety regulations and ability to maintain compliance with DOT rules.
- Experience operating heavy vehicles and equipment, with a solid understanding of vehicle maintenance.
- Physical ability to drive for extended periods, lift up to 75 lbs., and work in extreme weather conditions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must pass background check, drug test, and meet DOT certification requirements.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be reliable and have dependable transportation to and from work.
Working Conditions
- Frequent outdoor work in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Exposure to noisy environments, heavy machinery, and traffic.
- Standing, sitting, and occasional bending or lifting are required.
- Extended hours and occasional overtime, including weekends and nights.
- Safety procedures must be always followed to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Constantly sitting and operating a vehicle.
- Occasionally lifting up to 75 lbs. and performing tasks requiring bending or stooping.
- Regularly performing tasks requiring prolonged periods of standing or sitting in a vehicle.
- Ability to work long hours, including shifts that may require overnight stays.
