About the Role
Under the supervision of the Transit Manager, the Transit Bus Driver inspects transit vehicles and transports passengers safely and efficiently on fixed route or on-demand public transit system. This role involves completing required paperwork and providing cultural and geographic information about Grand Canyon West and the Hualapai Tribe.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and operate Tribal Transit vehicles to transport passengers.
- Assist passengers in boarding and alighting the bus, including operation of ramps and wheelchair lifts.
- Assist in loading and unloading passenger baggage and other items.
- Inspect and maintain Tribal Transit vehicles to ensure safe operating conditions.
- Maintain a professional image and provide excellent customer service.
- Ensure required fares are deposited in the farebox and provide customer information as needed.
- Maintain records and complete all required paperwork.
- Comply with and promote safe practices in accordance with all Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and guidelines.
- Provide information about Grand Canyon West, the Grand Canyon, and Hualapai cultural information.
Requirements
- Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), minimum Class C, with "P" or "B" endorsement.
- Excellent driving record.
- Proficiency in pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Ability to pass a mandatory drug screen and DOT physical prior to employment.
- Ability to provide extraordinary customer service and basic knowledge of the Grand Canyon and Hualapai culture.
- Good oral and interpersonal communication skills.
- Physical ability to walk, lift up to 40 pounds, stand, kneel, push, pull, assist passengers with bags, and secure wheelchairs or other mobility devices.
- Ability to sit for extended periods with constant head, arm, hand, and foot movement.
Working Conditions
- Transport passengers over a predetermined tour route with loading and unloading zones at designated stops.
- Work varying schedules, including weekends and holidays.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and extensive background check.
