Primary duties

  • Drive semi tractor-trailer truck to/from specified destinations within the area of intended employment.
  • Maneuver trucks into and out of loading and unloading positions.
  • Operate in both on-road (paved) and off-road conditions, including rough and adverse off-road conditions.
  • Successfully operate the truck underneath the harvester boom safely, as instructed by the harvester driver.
  • Read maps, understand directions, use GPS, and navigate to specific locations.
  • Complete electronic log (ELOG) and/or paper logs when required.
  • Climb up and down, on, into, and out of tractor and trailers.
  • Perform preventive maintenance duties on assigned fleet vehicles, such as greasing fifth wheel, lubing zerk fittings, wheel hubs, changing oil, and replacing windshield wipers.
  • Assist with reactive maintenance on assigned fleet vehicles, troubleshooting and repairing minor electrical issues like blown fuses, marker lights, tag lights, and headlights.
  • Replace damaged landing gear legs, sand pads, crank handles, air lines, and learn to operate internal trailer wall patch and repair.
  • Change truck or trailer tires, and perform or learn brake system maintenance, including replacing brake drums, shoes/pads, brake chambers, and slack adjusters.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly surface and deep cleanings of assigned fleet vehicles, including exterior, chassis, engine area, and trailers.
  • Operate a pull tractor to aid in the extraction of tractors and/or trailers that have become stuck in various conditions.
  • Operate a hosteling truck to jockey trailers and/or form loading lines for filling and weighing purposes.
  • Aid farm personnel at the loading area and shipping line as required, including standing on the sorting line to remove unsatisfactory potatoes, rocks, and other foreign material, shoveling dirt, debris, and unusable potatoes, and moving trailers into and out of loading bays as required.
  • Learn and assist in the installation and removal of seasonal trailer ventilation systems, including installing and removing tubes, connecting and disconnecting ducts from trailers, and operating assigned generators and air conditioning equipment.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL or equivalent as a condition of employment.
  • Maintain a valid CDL and a clean driving record throughout employment.
  • Pass employer's and USDOT-mandated forms, use of electronic logging devices, including work field, vehicle inspection, and mileage records.
  • Perform basic arithmetic calculations as required.
  • Minimum of 12 months of verifiable prior experience driving/servicing the combination of a tractor unit and semitrailer, or a 3-axle or greater straight chassis tractor with a GVWR rating of greater than 26,001 lbs. with a trailer.
  • Provide verifiable job references or comparable third-party documentation from recent employers establishing acceptable prior experience.
  • Be able to perform all duties with accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Willingness and ability to assist farm personnel at the loading area and shipping line as required.
  • Ability to lift/carry 60 lbs.

Skills
