CDL/Maintenance Mechanic

About the role

Performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of campus facilities and operates the mobile health van.

Responsibilities

  • Performs rough and finished carpentry
  • Performs drywall repairs on wall surfaces
  • Makes routine electrical repairs, such as lighting fixtures, electrical outlets, appliances, light switches and ballasts
  • Assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures of water and drainage systems
  • Performs minor repairs on HVAC Systems
  • Performs minor repairs on flooring, such as VCT, sheet goods and carpeting
  • Performs minor furniture repairs
  • Paints on a variety of surfaces, both inside and outside
  • Assembles and installs tables, cabinets and shelves
  • Replaces ceiling tiles
  • Performs set-up and break-down of equipment, tables, etc. for special events held on the college premises
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks and inspections as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintains appropriate written record for work assignments
  • Ensures safe entrance/walkways at all times but particularly during times of inclement weather
  • Carries a wireless phone and is available for emergencies on an on-call basis
  • Keeps work areas orderly, clean and safe. Ensures proper care in the use of equipment and supplies
  • Safely operate and navigate the mobile health van to and from scheduled outreach locations
  • Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and organizational driving policies
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (fuel, oil, tire pressure, lights, cleanliness, etc.)
  • Report mechanical issues, maintenance needs, or safety concerns promptly
  • Ensure proper setup and shutdown of the mobile unit at each site (parking, leveling, securing, generators, climate control)
  • Assist healthcare staff with loading, unloading, and setting up equipment and supplies
  • Maintain patient privacy and support smooth patient flow into and out of the mobile unit
  • Represent the organization positively in the community and maintain respectful interactions
  • Keep accurate mileage logs, fuel receipts, and transportation records
  • Adhere to HIPAA and organizational confidentiality policies
  • Assist in emergency situations, including basic first-aid support or calling emergency services
  • Ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and readiness of the van for clinical use including dumping of the gray and black water reserves
  • Help secure the van and equipment at the end of each shift
  • Participate in staff meetings and required safety or compliance training
  • Flexibility to work some nights and weekends
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Five years of skilled experience performing duties in one of the building trades, involving a wide range of systems, components and related equipment
  • High School Graduate or GED required; additional specialized training in the Building Trades is desirable
  • A valid Georgia CDL driver's license and a safe driving record is required as well as a yearly background check

  • Use graphic instructions, such as blueprints, layouts or other visual aids
  • Communicate orally with staff, clients and contractors in person or over telephone
  • Provide written documents with cleanly organized thoughts
  • Establish priorities for own work load based upon such factors as need for immediate action, work objectives, work schedule, knowledge of future needs, etc.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
  • Possess the ability to use and care for hand tools, and the necessary power equipment that is required to perform various building maintenance and repair tasks
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, tools and materials used in building maintenance and repair work
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to building maintenance work
  • Computer literate

Physical Requirements

  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Reach high work areas with ladders and/or lifts, up to 35 feet

Work Environment

  • Position is subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective protection from weather
  • Position is subject to hazards: proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, exposure to chemicals, etc.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
  • Pass a yearly drug screening test

Pay

Starting Hourly Pay: $21.97
