CDL Laborer

About the Role

FiberTel is seeking CDL Laborers for our Sparks, NV location. In this role, you will support all phases of utility construction for various telecom projects, including placing poles, anchors, aerial strand and cable, trenching, boring, conduit installation, inside wiring, and testing and maintenance services.

Pay: $22–28/hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Load, drive, deliver, dig, remove, and place various types, sizes, and weights of construction materials and equipment.
• Hand dig using shovels and mechanical tools.
• Install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling.
• Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery.
• Work in congested or remote areas while maintaining visual and audible contact with crew members and surroundings.
• Perform general construction work under the direction of a Foreman/Supervisor.
• Maintain safe working habits and conditions in compliance with all regulations, procedures, and policies.
• Assist operators and foremen as assigned, including setup, preparation, and cleanup of construction sites.
• Develop an understanding of buried utilities.
• Lift heavy equipment and supplies.

Requirements

• Class A CDL.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Valid driver’s license or eligibility and willingness to obtain one; good driving record required.
• Basic knowledge of and ability to safely operate utility trucks and equipment.
• Basic knowledge of and ability to safely use hand tools and equipment.
• Effective communication skills with customers, employees, and crew members.
• Willingness and ability to work in all weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunications industry.
• Ability to perform all duties related to telecommunication construction.
• Willingness to travel.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week in an outdoor environment. Work conditions include exposure to extreme weather (cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and wind), varying terrain, traffic, urban and rural settings, and occasional exposure to natural gas or electrical shock risks. Moderate to loud noise levels may be present.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for long periods (up to 12 hours).
• Tolerance for extreme weather conditions.
• Ability to speak and hear worksite safety instructions.
• Capability to perform prolonged and repeated lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crouching, and crawling.
• Regularly lift up to 75 pounds.
• Required vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
