About the Role

The Front Load Driver operates refuse collection vehicles on pre-assigned and special routes to pick up garbage. Performs pre-trip and post-trip truck checks and cleaning, and other related work as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Service commercial businesses by picking up front load containers.
  • Empty containers using levers inside the truck cab to lift and dump containers into the truck using forks.
  • Open corral doors to access containers; roll 3-4 yard cans on castors (weighing up to 600 pounds) into position for dumping as needed.
  • Pick up loose trash from the truck and/or ground and clean up spills.
  • Transport waste to a designated local landfill or disposal area.
  • Complete route/productivity sheets, record mileage, fuel consumption, log books (as required), Vehicle Condition Reports, and other forms.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and report any issues or complaints to appropriate internal contacts.
  • Provide a high level of service through courteous and expeditious customer interactions.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude toward company, customer, and municipal goals.
  • Safely operate the truck, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections, evaluating materials for hazardous content, and ensuring safe transport.
  • Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each landfill run to ensure smooth and safe operations.
  • Maintain a clean truck and wash the exterior weekly.
  • Inspect and clean the truck: lift hood, inspect under the hood, walk around and check undercarriage; pump gas, check fluid levels, and air tires.
  • Attend and participate in corporation-sponsored training courses as assigned.
  • Stay up to date on current technology used by Waste Pro.
  • Perform any additional job duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must have a Class A or B CDL valid for the state in which the position works.
  • Requires a safe driving record.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Understand refuse collection policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices.
  • Understand Department of Transportation and state requirements for operators of commercial motor vehicles.
  • Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
  • See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
  • Exhibit normal range of body motion.
  • Drive a front-end, side, rear-end, or roll-off loading refuse truck, including right-hand driver’s position on certain equipment, observing legal and defensive driving practices.
  • Manipulate heavy equipment control levers.
  • Follow a designated refuse collection route or work schedule.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Maintain written records and service responses.
  • Speak and read English well enough to communicate with customers, co-workers, dispatch, and supervisors; understand highway and traffic signals; and make legible entries on paperwork.
