Responsibilities

  • Drive commercial frontload or ancillary equipment along designated routes to collect solid waste and transport it to disposal facilities.
  • Open container enclosures or gates to access cans and perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections.
  • Roll 3-4-yard cans on castors into position for dumping and interact courteously with customers or the public.
  • Notify supervisors of issues requiring management action and clean loose trash from the truck and surrounding area.
  • Maintain and submit necessary logs and reports as required by law or company policy.
  • Maneuver the truck into and out of minimum clearance spaces, using mirrors to back up.
  • Locate service addresses using a key map and GPS.
  • Operate the truck safely, following all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Monitor operations to detect loose debris and visually scan the customer site before and after dumping.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is preferred but not required.
  • A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is mandatory.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Minimum one year of commercial driving experience or a CDL school certificate is required.
  • Must meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions as per company standards.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to safely operate the truck and equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of the truck and its components, and the basic maintenance required for safe operation.
  • Ability to control and maneuver the equipment safely, including backing distances of approximately 120 feet or more.
  • Ability to recognize and handle unacceptable waste.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend associated documents and maps.
  • Ability to follow instructions and adhere to company safety policies and procedures.

Physical/Mental Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, and smelling.
  • Sitting may be required up to 75% of the time due to driving.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 25 pounds frequently.
  • Regular exposure to loud noise, humidity, rain, extreme temperatures, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Work in an outdoor environment up to 100% of the time.
  • Work in motor vehicle traffic conditions constantly.
  • Work in high precarious places.
  • Work in usually loud conditions.

Working Conditions

  • Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, rain, extreme hot and cold weather conditions.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Work in an outdoor environment up to 100% of the time.
  • Work in motor vehicle traffic conditions constantly.
  • Work in high precarious places.
  • Work in usually loud conditions.
