Curtis Lane Equipment is an authorized Bobcat® dealer serving Delaware, Virginia, and North Carolina with 9 full-service locations. We offer sales, rental, parts, and service of all Bobcat machines.

About the role

The CDL Driver serves as a key business partner in operating and safely driving trucks with a gross vehicle weight over 26,000 lbs. to deliver company products and equipment machinery on a flatbed (dovetail) or RGN (lowboy) trailer. This role involves local hauling with no nights or weekends, delivering Bobcat equipment to job sites in urban, rural, and construction settings. The position requires adherence to schedules, collaboration with the Service team, maintaining safety practices, and providing excellent customer service. Responsibilities

  • Operates and safely drives assigned vehicle(s) with a gross weight over 26,000 lbs.
  • Ensures trailer hitch and tractor unit are properly and securely attached.
  • Cleans, organizes, and properly maintains rig using spray washers, grease, oils, detergents, and other tools.
  • Safely and efficiently operates heavy machinery and loads/unloads goods at selected destinations.
  • Maintains detailed driving and delivery logs; tracks and reports working hours.
  • Obeys all applicable traffic laws and drives according to weather and road conditions.
  • Complies with ICC and DOT regulations; makes safety a priority at all times.
  • Performs light yard duty and maintenance of fleet; gauges fuel and other meters and documents as necessary.
  • Anticipates needs and initiates solutions collaboratively with the team.
  • Maintains a solid understanding of maintenance requirements and follows best practices.
  • Adheres to company policies and regulations related to service delivery.
  • Maintains up-to-date training and knowledge on best customer service practices.
  • Coordinates schedule based on customer and business needs; uses strategic thinking to problem-solve.
  • Demonstrates high-level customer service and builds ongoing customer relationships.
  • Collaborates across all levels of the team, business partners, vendors, and customers to troubleshoot and resolve concerns.
  • Represents Curtis Lane Equipment positively, abiding by core mission and values.
  • Mentors others and accepts delegated responsibilities; follows instructions from peers and leaders.
  • Maintains clear and organized documentation to ensure a smooth customer experience.
  • Exhibits mechanical aptitude and experience with equipment; demonstrates good safety habits.

  • Maintains availability through in-person meetings, phone calls, radio, emails, and text.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL covering combination vehicles with a gross combined weight of 26,001 pounds or more (towed unit weighing 10,000 pounds or more) and a clear driving record.
  • Must clear background and drug screen.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, listening, written, and presentation).
  • Prior customer service and experience handling equipment/machines highly desirable.
  • Ability to anticipate concerns, troubleshoot, and resolve issues to complete satisfaction.
  • Collaborative and positive approach with team and customers.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and understanding of business management principles.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform efficiently.
  • Confidence and transparency in sharing knowledge and advice with customers.
  • Ability to adapt to new information or changes and improve workflows.
  • Comfort with ambiguous information and confidence in handling and resolving conflict.

Physical/Sensory Needs

  • May lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs at a time frequently, using assistance as needed.
  • Requires walking, climbing stairs/ladders, bending, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying.
  • Uses keyboards, monitors, computers, phones, copy machines, and other business equipment.
  • Requires vision, listening, mathematical aptitude, hand-eye coordination, and finger/hand dexterity.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Remains seated and drives for a large part of the work schedule.
