CDL Class B Front Load Garbage Truck Driver

About the role

Interstate Waste Services is the most progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services in the country, primarily servicing Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, New York City, and recently expanded into Pennsylvania and Ohio. We cater to residential, industrial, and commercial customers with a focus on employee, customer, and environmental safety.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate front, side, or rear-loading trucks to pick up waste or recyclable material from bags or containers.
• Transport collected material to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities; may make one or more trips per shift.
• Perform repeated lifting up to 50 pounds and moving/maneuvering up to 100 pounds.
• Mount and dismount the truck multiple times during each route.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle compliance with IWS safety standards, OSHA, DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
• Navigate congested communities and confined or tight areas in city locations; perform highly skilled backing maneuvers.
• Climb in and out of the truck cab frequently to service customer accounts.

Requirements

• 21 years of age or older and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Valid Class A or B CDL with airbrake endorsement.
• Minimum 1 year of CDL driving experience within the last 7 years.
• Great safety record and clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Experience as a driver or helper for a refuse company is highly preferred.
• Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and applicable traffic regulations.
• Ability to speak and read English to converse with the public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and make legible entries on reports and records.
• Ability to read and understand a map.
• Meet physical and safety requirements of the position.
• Willing and able to work required hours under DOT regulations, which may include weekends, nights, and/or holidays.

Skills

• Front load experience in the waste services industry is required.
• Proficiency in manual and automatic truck operation.
• Strong backing and maneuvering skills in tight or congested areas.
• Attention to detail for vehicle inspections and compliance checks.

Pay

Hourly pay rate: $30.00

Schedule

Monday through Saturday with a 3:00 AM start time.
