About the role
The Class A CDL Driver plays a vital part in our local freight operations, safely delivering and picking up freight while representing AFE/MSTS with professionalism and pride. This role blends driving, hands-on freight handling, and teamwork in a fast-paced, service-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Safely pick up and deliver local freight using a variety of vehicles, including flatbed trucks, box trucks, vans, tractor trailers, and other company vehicles
- Load and unload trucks, trailers, or containers as needed
- Move freight within the yard or warehouse using a forklift or other material-handling equipment
- Complete and process required freight paperwork accurately and on time
- Represent Span/MSTS professionally with customers, partners, and the public
- Consistently follow all DOT regulations and AFE/MSTS Safety and Fit for Duty policies
Additional Responsibilities
- Inspect vehicles daily (fuel, oil, coolant, tires, lights, brakes) to ensure safe operating condition
- Perform minor maintenance, emergency repairs, and routine cleaning as needed
- Assist with warehouse cleanup and organization
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
- At least six months of relevant driving or freight experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Experience driving multiple vehicle types in varying weather conditions
- Strong communication skills via radio and telephone
- A customer-first mindset and professional demeanor
- Able to read schedules, maps, hazardous materials documents, and freight paperwork
- Strong attention, decision-making, and critical-thinking skills
- Excellent time-management and prioritization abilities
- Knowledge of proper and safe lifting techniques
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record
- Hazardous Materials Certification and Endorsement (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
- Forklift Certification (or ability to obtain)
- Air Brake Adjustment Certification
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to independently lift up to 70 pounds
- Ability to move loads up to 200 pounds using appropriate equipment
- Sit for extended periods while driving
- Perform repetitive physical movements including lifting, bending, reaching, grasping, and standing
- Good manual dexterity, balance, and coordination
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment with exposure to weather elements and vehicle exhaust fumes
