Responsibilities
- Operate company trucks on public roads to transport, load and unload material to EMS customers
- Operate vehicle in compliance with all local, state, federal and company rules and in accordance with generally accepted practices of safe driving
- Complete a driver's logbook and vehicle inspection report according to DOT regulations
- Inspect vehicle and required equipment to determine safe operating conditions prior to departure
- Review shipping papers for nature of load and special handling requirements if any
- Check load to determine if it's properly secured and safe
- Backup truck to loading platform; turn narrow corners; negotiate narrow passageways; keep truck and trailer under control particularly on wet or icy highways
- Wear safety equipment when handling material
- Safely load and unload cargo as required
- Maintain the truck in a clean and safe manner
- Keep tarp clean, neat, folded, and secured on trailer
Requirements
- Class "A" CDL driver's license
- Preferably 3 years of experience driving a 53ft tractor trailer
- No more than one major traffic violation within the past 5 years
- Lift and carry heavy material up to 75 lbs.
- Climb on and off a flatbed trailer
- Most of their time will be spent driving and loading/unloading goods and materials
- Significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling
- Generally, the job requires 50% driving, 30% walking, and 20% standing
- May be required to work in a variety of weather conditions
