Position Summary

Under direct supervision by department leadership, the Specialist, Donor CDL performs phlebotomy collection of whole blood and apheresis products, interacts with donors and coordinators to provide a high level of customer service, and drives the mobile drive vehicle safely and efficiently. The role contributes positively to team objectives, promotes a collaborative and respectful culture, and models teamwork, effective communication, and professionalism.

Compensation

The target salary is based on internal averages and local market ranges. Compensation decisions consider internal salary averages and differentiation based on education, experience, skills, and performance. Specific salary information is shared at the phone screening stage.

Responsibilities

• Operate mobile drive buses with a valid CDL, following all DOT guidelines and arriving on time.
• Prepare collection sites and set up technology systems, including quality control.
• Perform donor screening (history, mini‑physical) and phlebotomy.
• Deliver customer‑service excellence, presenting a positive image to donors.
• Respond to donor inquiries, requests, and complaints promptly; escalate when appropriate.
• Provide a service‑centric donor experience with respectful, compassionate, and professional interaction.
• Conduct automation (Alyx and/or Trima), recognize and respond to automation reactions, and recruit/convert donors for automation.
• Foster a positive team culture by encouraging teamwork, collaboration, and respectful behavior.
• Maintain product integrity, ensure proper donor identification, perform routine equipment maintenance, and complete departmental records.
• Prepare and pack units for transport as needed.
• Observe donors for reactions, provide reaction care, and assist staff with reaction handling.
• Rebook donors for future donation appointments.
• Undergo additional background checks as required by the sponsor.
• Perform other duties reasonably within the scope of this classification.
• Adhere to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements and standard operating policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 years of relevant people‑facing experience preferred; less than 1 year job‑related experience acceptable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of standardized work routines, simple equipment, and materials, typically acquired through on‑the‑job training.
• Ability to read and interpret SOPs, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and departmental manuals.
• Basic mathematical aptitude and strong attention to detail.
• Judgment to follow written or oral instructions.
• Organizational skills to maintain productive workflow.
• Consistently positive donor experience through professional, empathetic, donor‑centric service.

Licenses and Certifications

• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air‑brakes endorsement (Class B) required upon hire.

Tools and Technology

• Navigation system.
• Personal computer (desktop, laptop, or tablet) with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• General office equipment (printer, fax, copy machine).
• Screening equipment: lancet, sphygmomanometer (BP cuff), temperature probe, hemoglobin analyzer.
• Phlebotomy collection equipment, which may include blood mixer, Trima, Alyx.
