CDL A Truck Driver
Job Description
The Macomb Group, a recognized leading distributor in the Midwest for Pipe, Valve, and Fittings, is seeking a full-time Class A driver at their Charlotte, North Carolina location. The position involves local deliveries, transporting materials to and from specified destinations, preparing receipts for load pickup, maintaining truck logs and proof of delivery, loading and unloading truck materials, performing pre/post-trip inspections, ensuring proper safety equipment, adhering to traffic laws, reporting equipment issues, inspecting freight and vehicles for compliance, maintaining records, and handling basic small maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Local deliveries
- Transport materials to and from specified destinations
- Prepare receipts for load pickup
- Maintain truck logs and proof of delivery
- Loading and unloading truck materials when needed
- Perform proper Pre/Post trip inspections
- Inspect trucks to ensure working conditions of brakes, lights, wipers, windshield, fire extinguisher, triangles, and other safety equipment in the truck
- Adhere to all traffic laws, rules, and safety requirements
- Ensure that cargo is well secured
- Maintain record of goods and freight loaded and unloaded
- Report any equipment in the truck in need of repair, inoperable or missing
- Inspect freight and vehicle for compliance with regulations
- Maintain a log of activities, condition of the vehicle and any cases of accidents
- Property use electronic logs daily
- Possible warehouse duties after runs are completed
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Valid Class A CDL license with 3+ years prior driving experience for a commercial company
- DOT Certification
- Able to drive manual
- Experience in securing loads and operating flatbed trucks and trailers
- Basic mechanical knowledge to handle minor maintenance and repairs
- Knowledge of State and Federal transport regulations
- Presents self in a professional manner and has the ability to interact with all levels of organization and outside contacts
- Be able to walk, sit, stand, climb, kneel, or crawl occasionally
- Be able to frequently lift or move up to 25lbs
- Be able to strap and load materials onto truck bed
- Knowledge of PVF is a plus
Work Setting
Charlotte, North Carolina
Monday - Friday, day shift
OT on some Saturdays, 8 AM - 12 PM
No nights, holidays, or Sundays
