CDL-A Heavy Equipment Operator/Laborer - Pittsburgh, PA
About the role
Transporting, operating, and servicing heavy equipment used in clearing railroad derailments. You’ll practice safe working habits, ensure proper PPE is used, and safely drive, operate, and maintain CDL-A required vehicles and equipment. The role involves maintenance, cleaning, and set-up of equipment using small and large tools, including cutting torches and welding. You’ll perform physical tasks such as digging, hammering, and handling heavy steel chains, blocks, steel cables, and other devices. Following DOT regulations, including proper permits and driving rules, is essential. You must be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions and communicating effectively with your team and supervisor throughout the job process.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy or specialized equipment (e.g., Sideboom, Track Loader, Excavator, Vac Truck, Grapple Truck)
- Material handling of heavy steel chains, blocks, steel cables, and other devices
- Perform maintenance, cleaning, and set-up of equipment using tools including cutting torch and welding
- Dig, hammer, and perform other physical work with various tools
- Follow DOT regulations, ensuring proper permits and driving regulations are adhered to
- Work outside in all weather conditions
- Communicate with team and supervisor throughout the job process
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Ability to work on call 24/7 and travel frequently to job sites
- Must live within 45 minutes of the R.J. Corman shop
- Must pass background check, drug screen, and physical capacity test
- Valid CDL-A with no restrictions, manual endorsement, and DOT medical card
- Lifting 100 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working at heights over 25 feet on railroad cars, bridges, over water, or in water
- Love working outside

Pay
Guaranteed 40 hours per week with high potential for overtime. Hotel and travel expenses paid for.
Schedule
On-call 24/7 with frequent travel to job sites. On-the-job training provided, along with advancement opportunities.
