About the role

To serve our customers by safely and efficiently transporting product from the warehouse by driving a tractor trailer to various customers and properly delivering and unloading product according to customer invoices and company standards. Top earners can make up to $125,000.

Pay

$80,000 - $90,000 per year (top earners up to $125,000).

Schedule

• Dispatch Sunday – Friday
• Most routes out no more than 36 hours
• Overnight deliveries
• Overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call required
• Start times vary to meet customer needs

Responsibilities

• Safely transport product from the warehouse to customer locations on a timely basis according to assigned routes.
• Unload product from trailer by hand or using a hand cart down ramps, stairs, or docks in all weather conditions, placing product in designated customer storage areas.
• Pick up, load, and unload damaged goods and customer returns, transporting them back to the SYGMA warehouse.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, including DOT electronic or manual logs, inspections, vehicle maintenance reports, pre- and post-trip reports, invoices, and reports of damages or shortages.
• Ensure all food safety protocols are met, including maintaining proper temperatures, inspecting product for damage, and preventing cross-contamination.
• Maintain sanitary conditions in the tractor, trailer, warehouse, and yard.
• Follow preferred work methods and report any unsafe conditions to management.
• Safely operate assigned equipment, including hand carts, pallets, load bars, SLS units, and personal protective equipment.
• Develop and maintain good customer relationships through excellent and courteous service with clear communication.
• Communicate with management regarding route deviations, trailer or loading issues, and customer or product issues.
• Safely transport backhauled and line-haul product, ensuring timely and correct delivery.
• Work assigned schedule and additional hours as needed to meet customer needs; maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent degree.
• 1 year of tractor trailer driving experience preferred (completion of a tractor trailer driving school may substitute).
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
• Must be insurable to operate a vehicle as a condition of employment.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English sufficiently for the job and safety regulations.
• Ability to perform basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Skills

• Knowledge of: DOT regulations, Hazmat guidelines, safe lifting and delivery practices.
• Skill in: Driving long distances over varied terrains and weather conditions, communicating with customers, solving problems, delivering product.
• Ability to:
  • Drive a tractor-trailer day or night in varied traffic and weather conditions while remaining alert.
  • Meet or exceed minimum productivity levels.
  • Handle hazardous materials and food items (frozen, dry, refrigerated).
  • Operate a 3-axle tractor, 45' - 48' trailer, straight truck, on-board computer, keypad, and 2-wheel hand cart.
  • Plan and organize work activities independently.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
• Frequently required to lift, push, or move product up to 50 pounds by hand and push/pull up to 350 pounds with a 2-wheeled hand cart.
• Climb in and out of a tractor and trailer; reach to stack and unstack pallets and hand carts; bend and twist while loading and unloading product.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Occasionally exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold, and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; confined spaces; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles.
• Usually works an overnight schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
