CDL A Chain Delivery Driver

About the role

Picture yourself as a delivery driver with Gordon Food Service! In this position, you will be building relationships with customers while delivering food products essential to regional chain restaurants. Night shifts and regional routes mean you’ll be home most nights, with 1 or 2 overnights required each week. You’ll be required to unload cases up to 100 lbs, and you’ll be using a ramp and two-wheeler throughout your shift. Newly licensed drivers are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe, accurate, timely, and efficient deliveries of GFS products
• Build and maintain good customer relationships
• Demonstrate self-control and professionalism
• Accurately collect customer payments and safeguard company funds per GFS banking policies
• Perform all Sales Service functions by the 90th day of employment
• Perform proper equipment maintenance, monitor reefer temperature, and report mechanical issues and damages promptly
• Complete daily check-ins accurately and on time with no errors
• Collaborate with management and sales representatives to communicate customer concerns
• Perform daily pre/post trip inspection of vehicles and equipment
• Manage paperwork including register, credits, pick-ups, etc.
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with other GFS employees
• Maintain peer relationships in the field to share issues and ideas
• Attend department meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

Basic qualifications:

• At least 21 years of age
• Class A CDL License at hire (or CDL temp permit at hire with full CDL A obtained no later than 90th day of employment)
• Ability to operate a two-wheel cart with loads up to 350 pounds
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English (to read labels, pick lists, scanners, signage, company website information related to benefits, updates, complete paperwork, and follow verbal instructions)
• Successfully pass a drug test assessing drug usage (including marijuana) and a background check
• Clean driving record per DOT and Gordon Food Service standards
• Registered through the Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse with electronic consent (effective January 6, 2020)
• One year previous driving experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Equipment and technology proficiency:

• Operate on-board computer and handheld scanner
• Operate GFS tractor/trailer
• Operate a two-wheeled hand truck with loads up to 350 pounds
• Use two-wheeled hand truck and other safety equipment for lifting/carrying products averaging 50 pounds
• Basic computer operations

Education and experience:

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred
• CDL A required at hire or within 90 days of start date
• Must be at least 21 years of age

Pay

• Drivers average $70,000 – $100,000 per year
• Guaranteed minimum of $1,250 per week
• Daily base pay plus component pay
• Paid for every mile driven, stop made, and case delivered

Schedule

• 4-day work week with overnights Monday–Friday
• Start times vary
• One- and two-day routes
• Overnights spent in a hotel paid for by GFS
