CDC Research and Dissemination Fellowship in Adolescent Health

About the Research Opportunity

A research opportunity is available in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located in Atlanta, Georgia. The Research and Dissemination Fellowship in Adolescent Health is available in the Office of Science (OS) in the Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) in the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP). CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health works with and through schools to understand and improve the health and well-being of all students. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling-basis.

Learning Objectives

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will have the opportunity to engage in and learn from DASH's research and dissemination efforts. Specifically, through participation alongside DASH staff, you will:

• Learn how to analyze and disseminate data from the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS), School Health Profiles, and other national surveys focusing on adolescent health behaviors and experiences.
• Gain experience in the development and implementation of public health assessment and evaluation projects and research studies.
• Build skills in conducting systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses on topics representing division priorities to help inform the division's research agenda, tools for programs, and the scientific literature.
• Hone your communication skills by collaborating on the creation of compelling visuals for presentations, fact sheets, and brief reports.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received a master's or doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields. Applicants with skills in quantitative research methods and analysis including literature reviews and skills in data visualization and plain language writing are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Skills

• Proficiency in conducting, interpreting, and reporting results of statistical analyses using SAS/SUDAAN or R.
• Experience analyzing large, complex survey data, including conducting multi-level modeling and multivariate analysis.
• Experience conducting systematic and scoping literature reviews and meta-analyses.
• Data visualization experience creating fact sheets, infographics, and presentations.
• Experience translating scientific findings into plain language materials and brief reports for non-scientific audiences.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated record of writing/publishing.

Appointment Details

• Anticipated Start Date: October 1, 2026 (flexible)
• Appointment Length: Initially one year, may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC and contingent on availability of funds
• Level of Participation: Full time
• Citizenship: U.S. citizens only
• Stipend: $5,439.00 – $6,581.00 monthly
