Duties
- Serves as the director of the U.S. Coast Guard Child Development (CDC) at Base Kodiak.
- Fulfills the role as the focal point for child development services and family childcare programs.
- Manages an entire cycle of operation of an early childhood program, including budgeting, facility management, supply management, program development, implementation, selection, training, and supervision of personnel, and curriculum oversight.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable Federal, State, accreditation agency, and Local regulations.
- Maintains the health and safety of children and responds to emergencies.
- Manages multiple funding sources with differing regulatory requirements.
- Interprets program developments, children's and parents' needs, and makes decisions regarding program planning.
- Develops or refines methods and techniques to improve child development services within financial and physical constraints.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in child development or early childhood education, or a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major in education plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in above.
- Experience in managing an entire cycle of operation of an early childhood program, including budgeting; facility management; supply management; program development; implementation; selection, training, and supervision of personnel; and curriculum oversight.
- Current certification in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation is required.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive an automobile is required.
- Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds and over, sit and rise from the floor, walk, bend, and stoop and stand on a routine basis. Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to satisfactorily complete Tier 1 background investigation, to include state checks, upon hiring and renew every 5 years.
- Ability to satisfactorily pass the Civilian Medical Clearance Examination that is performed at preplacement and then every two years for every childcare position type.
