Responsibilities

• Be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• Maintain utmost level of confidentiality.
• Adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
• Reviews the medical record and assigns the appropriate ICD and CPT codes.
• Codes all assigned outpatient record types daily.
• May assist with audits as needed.
• Makes sure assigned charge review work queue is monitored.
• Codes records in a timely manner.
• Maintains satisfactory coding performance in accordance with the department’s accuracy target and productivity requirements for each record type.
• Aids billing staff with coding questions to assist with denials.
• Responds to coding requests from internal and external customers, such as the business office and physician office.
• Requests information needed from physicians as needed.
• Attends educational programs and hospital and departmental staff meetings.
• Performs other duties as required by CBO Coding Manager and/or Director.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
• Three to five years related experience and/or training.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Pediatric multi-specialty coding experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be certified as any of the following: CCS, CCS-P, CPC, AAPC specialty coding certifications, RCC Radiology coding certification.
• Maintain continuing education hours to maintain certification.
