About the role

The Aircraft Mechanic Helper performs general aircraft maintenance support functions following the orders of higher grade workers. Assists with diagnosing, adjustment, repair, cleaning or overhaul of aircraft structures, engines and assemblies, such as hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist aircraft mechanics/technicians in servicing, maintaining, repairing and overhauling aircraft and aircraft systems which may include dismantling, repairing, overhauling and replacing parts and assemblies.
  • Perform duties such as facilitating materials, tools and supplies to the mechanic, cleaning work areas and machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Clean aircraft, interior and exterior parts and assemblies with solvents or other cleaning solutions.
  • Inflate tires, fill gasoline tanks and oil reservoirs, and grease aircraft.
  • May assist mechanics in preparing aircraft prior to flight and post flight maintenance actions.
  • Receive technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level mechanics/technicians for position relevant tasks.
  • Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • Relevant experience performing or assisting functional duties under the oversight of more senior positions.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level clearance.
  • Possess a valid US State driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain a government flight line driver’s license.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to read and interpret data is required.

Skills

  • Knowledge of systems related to individual specialty codes.
  • Ability to use military and company publications, drawings, blueprints, microfilm and diagrams.
  • Knowledge of supply procedures.

Other Desired Experience

  • DOD service Type Model relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of supply/logistics policies and procedures.
  • Two years NAWC/NAVAIR experience.

Physical Requirements / Working Environment

  • May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp, or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
  • Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, APU, etc.

Pay

The successful candidate’s starting pay will be based on, but not limited to, their job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The salary range provided is intended to display the value of the company’s base pay compensation for locations in the state of Maryland and may be modified at the discretion of the company.

  • Maryland Salary Range: USD $31.54 - USD $3.00/HR - USD $3.15/HR
  • Union Flex Benefit Credit

  • Other Compensation elements offered: Overtime Premium Pay, Differential Pay, Relocation reimbursement (must qualify)

Provided salary range minimum and maximum values correspond to variances between regional/geographic locations across the United States.
