Cattery Manager

About the role

The Virginia Beach SPCA (VBSPCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential pet services to the Hampton Roads community. Through animal sheltering, adoptions, low-cost veterinary services, and humane education, the VBSPCA aims to create a more humane and responsible community.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of cattery staff members in ensuring the Five Freedoms for all animals in the cattery: Freedom from Hunger and Thirst, Freedom from Discomfort, Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease, Freedom to Express Normal Behavior, and Freedom from Fear and Distress.
• Manage the cattery operations to maintain high standards of care and compliance with all relevant regulations.
• Oversee the daily care and health of the feline and small animal populations, including regular check-ups and vaccinations.
• Collaborate with other departments within the VBSPCA to ensure seamless service delivery and meet the needs of the community.

Requirements

• A degree in animal science, veterinary medicine, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience managing a cattery or similar animal care facility is required.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Pay

$38,000 to $42,000 annually - depending on experience.

Schedule

Full-Time positions are 40 hours a week, with the Management team expected to close at least one night out of their workweek.
