Cath Lab Tech ARRT

About the Role

To perform operations of radiological equipment and cath lab procedure equipment with expertise and safety, assist with the care of patients in the cath lab, and perform necessary documentation regarding cardiac procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate radiologic equipment, demonstrating knowledge and application of scientific principles of radiologic technology.
• Utilize knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique in assisting with procedure preparation.
• Assist in preparation of patients for all procedures, including setting up sterile trays; cross-train to scrub role and assist physician when needed.
• Assist in performance improvement (PI) activities by serving on PI teams, assisting with PI measures, and supporting and implementing changes for improvement.
• Perform responsibilities related to departmental charging of procedures and supplies.
• Assist with other assigned duties and transportation of patients as needed.
• Participate in direct patient care; observe symptoms and reactions of patients and take appropriate action as changes occur.
• Assist with emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients, such as cardiac arrest.
• Attend in-service programs, required training/education, and unit/department/service meetings.
• Adhere to radiologic and other safety precautions as they relate to the age of the patient (adult and geriatric).
• Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards as outlined in performance evaluations.
• Perform compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Adhere to DCH Behavioral Standards, including creating positive relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and colleagues.
• Perform essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
• Identify and reduce unsafe practices to promote safety for patients, visitors, and employees.
• Use electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and intranet.
• Adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Radiologic Technologist licensed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
• Must cross-train to the scrub position.
• Must be able to take 3-11, 11-7, weekend, and holiday call, and respond within 20 minutes of a call-out.
• Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

Working Conditions

• Physical ability to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Able to push stretcher/wheelchair with average adult patient.
• Able to do frequent stooping and occasional crouching, crawling, or kneeling.
• Ability to reach reasonable distances in any direction.
• Ability to run in emergency situations.
• Must be able to move fingers in a coordinated manner.
• Must have the ability to feel and perceive temperature, texture, shape, and size with fingertips.
• Physical presence onsite is essential.
• Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
• Able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, lab chemicals, and hazardous materials.
• Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
• Medium workload with contact with patients, physicians, coworkers, team members, and visitors.
• May interact with individuals who are angry or aggressive; may require assistance from more qualified individuals.
• Communication may occur via electronic mail, face-to-face, telephone, or letters/memos.
• May be responsible for answering department telephones and working in groups or teams.
