Category Manager, Global Procurement Operations (GPO)

About the role

Category Manager is a key global role within the Global Procurement Organization (GPO), responsible for managing the procurement of MHE Lifecycle services, including End-Of-Life Program, Spare Parts, Hotline, and Aftersales Support. This role serves Amazon's operations and internal customers, predominantly Reliability and Maintenance Engineers (RME). Material Handling Equipment (MHE) is critical to Amazon’s operations and customer delivery promise. The role manages an estimated spend of $90-120M across multiple global suppliers in NA, INTL (EU incl. UK), APAC (incl. Australia), MENA, and LATAM regions, covering all Amazon business lines.

The Category Manager oversees suppliers and negotiations involved in the End-Of-Life program for MHE, which includes exchanging, rebuilding, or refurbishing equipment no longer supported by original vendors for technical support, maintenance, or spare parts sales.

Responsibilities

• Spare Parts
  • Drive negotiations for End-Of-Life projects and other MHE-related services and spare parts.
  • Support internal customers (primarily RME) by collaborating with suppliers and other Category Managers to optimize costs for End-Of-Life projects.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for spare parts, including direct sourcing from manufacturers and distributors.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance for assigned spare parts suppliers.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers and contribute to the Recommended Spare Parts List (RSPL) process improvement and catalog optimization.
  • Support Supply Chain Risk Assessments for spare parts with newly awarded MHE Integrators for greenfield sites.
  • Develop AI tools to optimize procurement activities for spare parts and improve team efficiency.
• Hotline Services
  • Manage hotline support contracts with MHE Integrators and service providers.
  • Track and optimize SLA performance and response times.
  • Support contract negotiations and renewals for hotline support agreements.
  • Coordinate escalation processes with suppliers in partnership with RVM and RME Field teams.
• Maintenance Activities
  • Negotiate project costs related to refurbishing, rebuilding, and maintaining equipment approaching End-Of-Life.
  • Manage procurement of preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance contracts.
  • Support Prime & Peak onsite support sourcing and contract management.
  • Drive standardization of maintenance service scopes and pricing models across regions.
  • Monitor supplier performance against maintenance KPIs and SLAs.
• Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management
  • Establish category sourcing strategies, lead cross-functional strategic sourcing teams, and execute contracts to optimize Amazon’s competitive position.
  • Drive supplier relationships to achieve optimal solutions and cost of ownership, supported by continuous improvement and performance benchmarks.
  • Act as a market intelligence provider; anticipate strategic opportunities and inform key stakeholders.
  • Mitigate risk, improve performance, and add value through Supplier Relationship Management activities.
  • Identify, achieve, and report on savings and value targets for category sourcing activities.
  • Align with internal customers to understand business applications of the category.
• Daily Activities
  • Execute project-based and regular negotiations for spare parts and maintenance services, reflecting outcomes in Coupa Catalogues.
  • Analyze spend data and prepare cost-reduction business cases for leadership review.
  • Coordinate with RME Field & RVM teams on daily requests, escalations, and ticket resolution.
  • Contribute to process improvements in spare parts reception, catalog management, and procurement workflows.
  • Prepare reporting and dashboards for category KPIs and supplier performance metrics.

About the team

The role reports to the Global Life Cycle Category Lead. Key business partners include:

• MHE Equipment and Service Suppliers
• Reliability and Maintenance Engineers (RME Central and Field Teams, ELM – Early Life Management, RVM – RME Vendor Management, Automation Engineers)
• TVM – Technical Vendor Management

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of supply chain experience.
• 5+ years of program or project management experience.
• Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements.
• Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of driving end-to-end delivery and communicating results to senior leadership.
• 3+ years of driving process improvements.
• Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied organizational levels.
• Experience leading large and complex negotiations.
• Experience in complex problem-solving and working in a tight schedule environment.
• Master's degree in business, engineering, operations, supply chain, or transportation logistics.

Pay

• USA, TN, Nashville: $77,200.00 - $115,800.00 USD annually
• USA, TX, Houston: $85,800.00 - $128,600.00 USD annually
• USA, VA, Arlington: $85,800.00 - $128,600.00 USD annually
