About the role

The Catastrophe Modeling Analyst will work with UFG's growing team to analyze property data and determine the company's view of catastrophe risk. Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing catastrophe modeling data from various sources
  • Modeling the data using catastrophe models
  • Communicating outcomes and providing recommendations to senior management
  • Developing pricing, ratemaking, and exposure management strategies
  • Interpreting modeling outputs for growth and rate-making
  • Preparing analytical reports on portfolio and risk concentrations
  • Assessing catastrophe risk from both direct and assumed business
  • Performing scenario modeling to analyze the impact of growth or reduction
  • Supporting improvements efforts to increase consistency, efficiency, and compliance
  • Staying updated with the evolving catastrophe modeling industry
  • Effectively communicating information and results to various stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Gather and improve data accuracy and completeness for catastrophe modeling
  • Analyze risks for data quality and completeness
  • Provide recommendations to enhance decision-making
  • Run analyses using proprietary catastrophe models like RMS
  • Generate outputs to analyze loss results and assess risks
  • Support underwriting and actuarial teams in understanding portfolio and risks
  • Prepare analytical reports to understand the portfolio and risk concentrations
  • Assess catastrophe risk from both direct and assumed business
  • Perform scenario modeling to analyze the impact of growth or reduction
  • Support improvements efforts to increase consistency, efficiency, and compliance
  • Stay updated with the evolving catastrophe modeling industry
  • Compute potential losses for real-time catastrophic events and inform senior management

Requirements

Essential qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Possession or working towards CCRA, CEEM, and/or ARe certification
  • 6+ years of catastrophe modeling experience

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field
  • A minor concentration or additional degree in Meteorology

Skills

  • Advanced proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, SQL, and Tableau
  • Advanced analytical, technical, problem-solving, time management, critical thinking, and project execution skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including collaboration with multi-disciplinary groups and all organizational levels
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong knowledge of catastrophe modeling software such as RMS and AIR
