BASIC REPONSIBILITIES

  • Aid the telemedicine coordinator in developing, delivering, and overseeing high-quality telemedicine initiatives for the corporation.
  • Promote the use of telemedicine among healthcare professionals, patients, and the community on behalf of the corporation.
  • Maintain oversight of patient appointments in the Telemedicine Units.
  • Support the telemedicine coordinator with ongoing clinical videoconferencing activities and associated administrative tasks such as scheduling and supervising telemedicine service delivery.
  • Stay updated on developments in the field of telemedicine and telemedicine activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Patient Care:
    • Maintain CNO Standards of Practice.
    • Follow policies and procedures set by the corporation.
    • Ensure competence in clinical skills relevant to one's area of work.
    • Encourage a multidisciplinary approach to client and family-centered care.
    • Facilitate patient and family education.
    • Communicate effectively with all caregivers.
    • Apply the Nursing Process to continuously assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
    • Coordinate individual care plans with all disciplines and care providers.
    • Preserve confidentiality of all clients.
    • Act as a client advocate, respecting their dignity, worth, and rights.
  • Patient Safety:
    • Anticipate changes in the patient’s condition and prepare for support or medical assistance.
    • Adhere to accepted standards of care.
    • Practice mindfulness and hazard awareness.
    • Follow protocols and guidelines related to patient care and assessment.
    • Recognize, respond, and report adverse events.
    • Communicate effectively for patient safety.
  • Health and Safety:
    • Follow safe work practices.
    • Report any unsafe conditions.
    • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
    • Evaluate work procedures and environments to identify potential hazards and ensure adequate controls are in place.
  • Human Resources:
    • Participate in the orientation process and assist with mentorship and additional skills training for colleagues as needed.
    • Supervise and/or mentor Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) as delegated.
    • Cover vacation requests and days requiring additional assistance for the telemedicine coordinator.
  • Community Partners & Resources:
    • Engage in regional telemedicine activities as assigned.
    • Collaborate with other community organizations and services to enhance client care or provide continuing care.
    • Work closely with Regional Telehealth staff, physicians, and Telehealth specialists to optimize service utilization and care delivery.
    • Cooperate with other agencies in educating about available community services and care options.
  • Quality Improvement:
    • Participate in hospital accreditation processes and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Contribute to the development and sharing of telemedicine best practices.
    • Support program monitoring and evaluation activities with OTN partners and/or the LHIN.
  • Equipment:
    • Provide input into plans for purchasing telemedicine equipment.
    • Ensure adequate supplies and equipment are available for daily patient care.
    • Receive appropriate education on the use of all equipment before using and caring for it.
    • Initiate and follow up with maintenance and/or repair of equipment as necessary.
    • Report any equipment problems or failures to the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) Help Desk.
    • Develop expertise in the use and care of Telemedicine equipment.
  • Other Activities:
    • Participate on teams/committees within the organization as requested or required.
    • Support regular nurse participation in OTN training sessions, monthly meetings, and the development of telemedicine best practices.
    • Collect and report required monthly telemedicine statistics and workload for the corporation.
