What You'll Do
- Maintain a safety first attitude and hold the crew accountable for the same attitude and behavior
- Ensure that the crew is producing the best quality bar as possible
- Maintain a continuous focus on cost and ways to decrease waste and cost
- Communicate key shift information, production issues, and opportunities with operators and appropriate personnel
- Lead continuous improvement efforts focused on productivity, uptime, and lead-time reduction while holding employees accountable and clearly communicating expectations
- Monitor daily staffing needs, coordinate coverage, and operate mobile equipment such as forklifts and yard trucks
- Operate and perform cross-functional machine tasks to support workflow flexibility while ensuring machines operate per established procedures
- Participate in CMC Safety Programs and proactively uphold the CMC Safety Culture
- Train team members on relevant equipment and maintain a clean, orderly work area and equipment
- Work with melt shop personnel in the operation, monitoring, and performance of equipment including the caster, furnace, cranes, ladle furnace, and related systems
- Assemble and disassemble casting molds, repair molds through basic welding and minor fabrication; install, prepare, and repair spray pipes in casting machine spray chamber
- Cut starter bar loose at the start-up of a heat
- Observe strand monitors to ensure that equipment is operating properly, and that alarm system does not indicate equipment malfunctions, and that hydraulic fluid indicators and water temperature/level gauges stay within the proper ranges
- Perform manual torch cutting operation when automatic controls are out of order and to cut up scrap ends for handling
- Sets up and performs operations necessary to cast molten steel with demonstrated proficiency, in operating the strand panel in both manual and automatic operating modes to regulate casting speed drive and spray water flow
- Work requires care in the assembly and installation of molds to prevent the loss of equipment, production delays and losses as well as the possible creation of safety hazards for the machine operating personnel
What You'll Need
- Minimum 2 years department experience in a hands on environment
- Basic knowledge of computers and MS Office programs – Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint
- Ability to operate fork lift and overhead crane required
- Ability to use measuring devices (tapes, micrometer, inside outside calipers, etc)
- Ability to follow OSHA, EPA, and all company safety policies, rules, and regulations
- Ability to work effectively as a team member in a fast-paced environment with strong work ethic, attention to detail, and root-cause problem-solving
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work overtime, both planned and unplanned, including during emergency situations
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat and cold, while maintaining a clean and orderly work area
Your Education
- A High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required
