About the role

Providing funding for our mission services operation. As a Cashier Trainee, you will greet customers warmly, ring up sales transactions accurately, and ensure they feel welcomed and appreciated through friendly, attentive service.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure world-class donor and customer service by answering phones within three rings, greeting customers within 10 seconds, and providing friendly service and information.
  • Acknowledge all customers and employees within a 10-foot radius.
  • Operate the cash register, receive payments for purchases, and record sales and other transactions.
  • Balance cash drawers at the end of each shift, ensuring no cash discrepancies exceeding $5.00 over or short after one week of training.
  • Encourage customers to donate through the change round-up program.
  • Check and clean dressing rooms.
  • Retrieve shopping carts from the parking lot.
  • Place apparel and other items for sale on the proper racks and shelves.
  • Remove empty hangers from the racks on the sales floor.
  • Ensure a clean and empty workstation at the end of each shift.
  • Pull and rotate store merchandise as instructed by supervisor or manager.
  • Assist with putting carts of merchandise on the floor and transferring racks from the back room to the sales floor.
  • Maintain the image of the sales floor and assist in store housekeeping, including daily cleaning of the floor, fixtures, and restrooms.
  • Maintain adherence to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Prior work experience in the service industry preferred.
  • Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.
  • Must be able to count money quickly and accurately.
  • Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission to the general public.
  • Must be able to take initiative and work well with little supervision.
  • Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with, and among, employees.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs. frequently and 75 lbs. with assistance occasionally.
  • Ability to use fingers, hands, and wrists repetitively.
  • Ability to engage in frequent bending, stretching, stooping, standing, walking, and twisting.
  • Ability to push equipment on wheels weighing 50 lbs. to 150 lbs.

Position Details

  • Duration: Temporary positions for up to 90 days.
  • Path to Permanent Employment: These roles are intended to become regular positions after 90 days. Conversion is expected as long as work performance, work ethic, and cultural fit meet expectations.
  • Must be able to work all shifts required Sunday–Saturday, 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM to be eligible for the position.
