About the role

Beacon, formerly VTC Enterprises/LOVARC, has supported adults with developmental disabilities since the 1960s. In this role, the Cashier independently handles customer transactions in a base dining facility, ensuring accurate and efficient service while delivering an excellent experience. May also assist with basic food preparation and beverage service in accordance with military food service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver outstanding customer service at all times, ensuring a positive dining experience.
  • Operate the cash register to process transactions, including ringing up sales, receiving payments, making change, and issuing receipts.
  • Take customer orders at the counter for dine-in, take-out, or serving line service as required.
  • Assist with basic food and beverage preparation, including brewing coffee, making tea, and preparing other beverages in accordance with military guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area at all times.
  • Accurately account for all funds and complete cashier reports at the end of each shift.
  • Adhere to current policies for handling ESM (Essential Station Messing) patrons and TDY (Temporary Duty) personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year’s experience operating a cash register is preferred.
  • Experience in fast food service is preferred.
  • Knowledge of food sanitation requirements and health code standards.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence in English.
  • Ability to remember oral or written instructions provided by others.

  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays.

Certifications

  • Must obtain and maintain a ServSafe Food Handler Certification.
