Cashier

Responsibilities
- Handle cash transactions: Process payments, issue change, and maintain accurate cash records.
- Collaborate with team: Work with yard personnel to ensure smooth operations and support team members.
- Record transactions: Verify cash amounts received and prepare reports for daily transactions.
- Communicate with staff: Use communication tools like walkie-talkies to facilitate smooth operations.
- Maintain inventory: Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the scrap yard and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Weighing vehicles
- Sampling of inbound materials
- Maintaining inbound and outbound scaling documentation
- Reviewing loads and paperwork for inbound and outbound vehicles
- Upkeeping scale house and scales
- Collecting fees from drivers and maintaining records
- Ensuring trucks don't exceed their maximum weight by law
- Performing safety inspections
- Assisting in loading and unloading of vehicles
- Keeping the weighbridge area clean and tidy
- Issuing receipts to customers
- Inspect and weigh incoming non-ferrous metals, enter the correct commodity codes, and place materials in their designated locations for recycling.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); College degree in business desirable or equivalent business experience
- One to three years of previous cash handling experience in retail environment
Skills
- Ability to learn many different types of scrap metal
- Excellent phone etiquette with clear verbal communication skills
- Basic math and computer skills necessary
- Work with various levels of customers with a focus on service
