CASHIER

About the role

Company Cashiers create an exceptional customer service experience by providing prompt and courteous service through greetings, checking customers out, processing payments, answering inquiries, and properly bagging items for customers.

Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming experience by greeting customers, answering inquiries, and providing assistance.
• Operate scanners, scales, cash registers, and other electronics to properly scan, price, and verify quantities of items.
• Balance the cash register and generate reports for credit and debit sales.
• Accept payments, ensure all prices and quantities are accurate, and provide a receipt to every customer.
• Follow store procedures regarding coupons, gift cards, or the purchase of specific items, such as alcohol or cigarettes.
• Package groceries into plastic, paper, or cloth bags while strategically arranging items to avoid damage or breakage.
• Provide fast and efficient service while checking for leftover items in baskets/carts, placing packaged items back in baskets/carts, and replenishing bags as necessary.
• Maintain a clean environment at the registers by wiping spills, sweeping floors, removing litter, mopping, etc.
• Comply with safety standards and report malfunctioning equipment as necessary.
• Perform additional duties as needed.

Requirements

• Ability to work flexible schedules through the day, evening, and weekend shifts.
• Exceptional customer service skills, including packing purchases with care, offering assistance, and maintaining a friendly and polite attitude.
• Ability to memorize the store layout and product locations to assist with customer inquiries and efficiently locate items.
• Math and computer skills to properly operate equipment.
• Strong cash handling skills to ensure balancing of registers.
• Strong teamwork skills to aid co-workers.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to operate general office equipment.
• Knowledge of and experience complying with equipment, safety principles, practices, procedures, and strategies to promote effective operations for the protection of people and property.
• Knowledge of and ability to operate equipment necessary to perform the duties of the position.
• Experience as a cashier.
• Basic math skills.

Physical Requirements

• Lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 pounds with frequent walking and standing.
• Frequently kneels, stoops, reaches, pushes, pulls, and carries medium to heavy items.
• Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
