Responsibilities

• Provide outstanding customer service by actively greeting, engaging, and assisting customers.
• Process customer transactions quickly, accurately, and efficiently through the check lane.
• Understand and operate the Point of Sale (POS) system, handling various tenders such as cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, offline SNAP EBT, WIC, rain checks, complex loyalty offers, and coupons according to company policy.
• Adhere to company guidelines on cash shortages, overages, and loss prevention.
• Understand and follow guidelines for restricted sale items (alcohol, tobacco, DVDs).
• Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
• Follow established policies for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying store management of accidents or issues.
• Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying the appropriate department or store manager of needed repairs.
• Create a welcoming environment for customers by answering questions about products sold within the department and throughout the store.
• Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, as well as company guidelines.
• Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
• Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
• Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
• Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve customer and business issues.
• Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
• Perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

• Customer service experience.
• Effective communication skills.
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).

Qualifications

Desired previous job experience:

• Customer service experience.
• Prior experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk.
