About the Role
Increases customer confidence and loyalty by providing accurate, fast, and courteous customer checkout. This role involves scanning, packaging, and processing payments for customer purchases while expediting the flow of groceries through the checkout lane. Maintains financial responsibility in the assigned service lane.
Responsibilities
- Creates a welcoming environment to increase customer confidence and loyalty (30% of time).
- Listens to and appropriately escalates customer concerns to management with a positive attitude.
- Stocks front-end products, restocks supplies efficiently, and manages supply costs.
- Manages checkout lane according to service standards and assists in training new cashiers.
- Uses the Point of Sale (POS) system to handle various tenders such as cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, WIC, rain checks, reward offers, and coupons (30% of time).
- Adheres to company policies on cash shortages/overages and restricted sale items (e.g., alcohol, tobacco).
- Assists customers with unloading purchases, packing groceries to prevent damage, and loading groceries into vehicles (20% of time).
- Checks merchandise prices across departments as needed.
- Collects shopping carts from parking lots and returns them to designated areas (10% of time).
- Maintains company standards for safety, sanitation, and productivity (10% of time).
- Ensures compliance with food safety regulations (USDA, COOL, DOA) and executes product recalls/withdrawals.
- Reinforces safety programs, reports unsafe conditions, and notifies management of accidents or illegal activity.
- Ensures adherence to wage and hour policies and cultivates a culture of safety within the store.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED (preferred).
- 0–3 years of relevant experience.
- Customer service skills and effective communication abilities.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and basic computer skills for online training.
- Compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- High standard of integrity and reliability.
- Authorization to work in the United States or ability to obtain the same.
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check.
Preferred: Spanish language skills.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use manual dexterity, talk, see, hear, and perform repetitive movements.
- Frequently required to reach at waist level or overhead, carry, push, or lift up to 30 lbs.
- Occasionally required to sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb up to 10 ft.
- Exposure to indoor/outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet/humid conditions.
- Frequent twisting of back/neck, walking on slippery/cluttered surfaces, and working with hazardous equipment.
- Occasional exposure to loud noise, skin irritants, nuisance dust, fumes, hazardous cleaning solutions, and toxins.
- Pulling requirement: 250 lbs. Lifting requirement: 30 lbs.
Personal Protective Equipment: Goggles, gloves, back brace.
