Cashier Associate

About the Role

Increases customer confidence and loyalty by providing accurate, fast, and courteous customer checkout. This individual effectively scans, packages, and receives payment for customer purchases while expediting the flow of groceries through the checkout lane and maintaining financial responsibility in their service lane.

Responsibilities

• Creates an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated to increase customer confidence and loyalty (30% of time).
• Listens to and appropriately escalates customer concerns to management with a positive attitude.
• Stocks front-end products; restocks and uses supply items efficiently to eliminate waste and maintain low supply costs.
• Manages lane according to service standards and assists in training new cashiers.
• Uses the Point of Sale (POS) system and handles various tenders such as cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, offline SNAP EBT, WIC, rain checks, reward offers, and coupons according to company policy (30% of time).
• Adheres to company limits on cash shortages and overages and works honestly to control loss, following guidelines on restricted sale items (e.g., alcohol, tobacco).
• Assists customers in unloading purchases onto the conveyor belt, packs groceries to prevent damage, and loads them into the customer’s vehicle (20% of time).
• Checks the price of merchandise in all departments as needed.
• Collects shopping carts from the parking lot and returns them to designated areas (10% of time).
• Ensures company standards for safety, food handling, sanitation, and productivity are maintained, adhering to regulatory compliance (e.g., USDA, COOL, DOA).
• Executes product recalls and withdrawals promptly, securing items and removing them from customer access.
• Reinforces safety programs, reports unsafe conditions, and notifies management of accidents or illegal activity (e.g., theft, fraud).
• Ensures adherence to wage and hour policies and cultivates a culture of safety within the store.
• Ensures hazardous assessments are posted and personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and utilized.
• Reports and assists with remediation of safety hazards, including equipment maintenance (e.g., lock out/tag out).
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (preferred).
• 0–3 years of relevant experience; supervisory experience is a plus.
• Authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain the same.
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to:

• Stand or walk on various types of flooring for extended periods.
• Utilize manual dexterity, talk, see, hear, smell, and perform repetitive movements with both hands and/or feet.
• Reach at waist level or overhead, carry, push, or lift up to 30 lbs.
• Occasionally sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb up to 10 ft.
• Pull up to 250 lbs.

Working conditions may include exposure to:

• Indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet/humid environments.
• Loud noise, skin irritants, nuisance dust, fumes, sprays, hazardous cleaning solutions, and other toxins.
• Slippery or cluttered floors, sharp objects, and hazardous equipment.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as goggles, gloves, and back braces may be required.
