Caseworker

The Salvation Army's Service Extension Unit in Chillicothe, Missouri is seeking a Caseworker.

About the role

This position is expected to advance and support the Mission of The Salvation Army. The Social Services Caseworker will provide intake, assessment, and services to individuals seeking emergency social services (ESS) assistance, including food, utility bills, rent or mortgage payments, transportation, clothing, furniture vouchers, prescriptions, and other basic needs. The Caseworker will network with community agencies, programs, and referral resources to benefit clients.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site and occasional outreach assistance to clients seeking emergency assistance.
• Conduct intake and assessment activities to determine client eligibility and match clients with resources.
• Distribute food, vouchers, and/or checks to clients for purchases and payments; refer clients to other agencies if assistance is unavailable.
• Identify and maintain a current community resource guide to provide information and referral services.
• Network with community agencies and organizations to maximize services; occasionally liaison between clients, The Salvation Army, and other agencies.
• Record electronic and written client information while maintaining confidentiality.
• Record statistical data and provide reports in a timely manner.
• Expend ESS funding and in-kind gifts in compliance with spending deadlines and tracking methods.
• Maintain food pantry in clean and organized condition; stock with food products and supplies.
• Direct, schedule, and supervise volunteers staffing the food pantry.
• Communicate social service activities to the community.
• Facilitate client application processes for seasonal, special assistance, and community programs.
• Participate in seasonal events and resource collection as directed by supervisor.
• Provide emergency social services during disaster situations for extended durations and in extreme conditions.
• Represent The Salvation Army through the implementation of its mission in all service aspects.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with Safe From Harm guidelines.
• Foster a positive work atmosphere through professional communication and conflict resolution.

Requirements

• Associate degree in human services field with one (1) year related work experience, including some supervisory experience. Combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Outgoing personality with strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse cultures.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills.
• Commitment to The Salvation Army’s mission.
• Knowledge of The Salvation Army, government, state, and community resources is helpful.
• Working knowledge of computers.
• Reliable transportation, valid Driver’s License, and ability to pass TSA MVR check.
• Capable of occasionally lifting 20 pounds and sometimes up to 40 pounds; occasionally move 50 or more pounds using a dolly, cart, or truck.

Pay

$15.00 per hour.

Schedule

Part-time, 19 hours per week.
