The mission of the United Way of Ventura County is: “To Mobilize and Inspire the Caring Power and Resources of our Community.” In keeping with this charge and in response to the shelter crisis in Ventura County, United Way of Ventura County launched a Homelessness Initiative to include a Landlord Engagement Program (LEP) to increase housing stock and utilize existing housing vouchers and housing subsidies provided by local jurisdictions and community partners in preventing and ending homelessness.
Responsibilities
- Responds to phone, in-person, and electronic inquiries; explains agency and program policies to individuals and groups.
- Receives and reviews requests for service; provides information and referrals to appropriate agency, community, and governmental resources.
- Refers, schedules, and coordinates access to services, appointments, and community resources.
- Utilizes Microsoft Office and other proprietary systems to communicate, enter data, and complete daily tasks.
- Assists in planning and participating in group presentations, workshops, and program events.
- Supervises or monitors clients and visitors during case manager-approved activities, including quality family visitations.
- Participates in fieldwork assignments, including transporting clients to appointments and assisting with monitoring health and safety needs.
- Accompanies clients to services, appointments, or court as needed to support service engagement and compliance.
- Prepares and presents oral and written testimony for court proceedings, including Superior Court, dependency court, family court, and/or criminal court.
- Establishes, organizes, and maintains accurate case files, records, and documentation in compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
- Assists clients with completing required forms; conducts initial and follow-up interviews; enters and updates client data in electronic and/or paper systems.
- Maintains detailed records of client contacts, communications, attendance, behaviors, and responses.
- Provides updates and relevant information during team meetings, case reviews, and staffing.
- Acts as a liaison between clients, case managers, social workers, and other agency or partner staff.
- Completes and submits required notices, forms, and program reports in a timely manner.
- Performs routine clerical duties, including reception, filing, copying, and data entry.
- Escorts children to county jails and correctional facilities for visitations and accompanies dependent adults to court hearings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Educational requirement: High school diploma or equivalent (associate or bachelor's degree in social work, Human Services, or related field preferred).
- Experience requirement: General knowledge and experience in Ventura County, the VA, and the local network of community-based health and human services organizations serving low-income homeless populations, or veteran families at risk of homelessness, is preferred.
- Technical skills: Proficiency required in MS Word, Excel and other related computer programs required, and research related software preferred.
