Responsibilities
- Set goals and monitor KPIs for carrier network growth, lane coverage, margin, and on-time performance.
- Conduct quarterly business reviews (QBRs) with each carrier to evaluate performance and service trends.
- Resolve escalated carrier or service issues.
- Source, qualify, and onboard new asset-based carriers to reduce reliance on the brokered network.
- Execute broker/carrier agreements and manage onboarding documentation (insurance, authority, W-9, safety packet).
- Negotiate and establish base rates, fuel surcharges, and accessorial schedules by lane.
- Build long-term, direct carrier partnerships to improve service and cost control.
- Ensure onboarded carriers are load-ready across required systems (TMS, rate tables, compliance tracking).
- Monitor ongoing carrier compliance (insurance, safety ratings, authority, CSA scores).
- Collaborate with sales and operations to align lane rates with customer commitments.
- Track freight market trends and adjust rate strategy to protect margin.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field (preferred).
- 3-6+ years of experience in carrier sales, carrier management, or freight brokerage.
- Experience in managed transportation, overseeing contracted carrier relationships governed by set rate schedules (base, fuel surcharge, accessorials).
- Demonstrated ability to build processes from the ground up in a leaner, less tech-supported environment.
- Experience negotiating and onboarding asset-based carriers (preferred).
- Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of TMS platforms and freight market/rate dynamics.
