Responsibilities

  • Performs routine maintenance of aesthetic finishes, which includes but is not limited to patching/painting, staining, sanding, grouting, sealing, caulking, etc.
  • Performs construction and repairs to facility buildings, architectural components, and furniture.
  • Replaces flooring and ceiling components such as carpet tile squares, vinyl tile, acoustic tile, etc.
  • Hangs paintings, banners and other signage.
  • Conducts facility inspections (rounds) as required, inspecting equipment and systems for proper operation.
  • Utilizes tablet-based interface to generate, assign and close out work orders through the Institutes work order system.
  • Fulfills preventive maintenance on all campus systems and kitchen equipment as required.
  • Understands and follows all codes and safety practices required by the CIA or governing agencies.
  • Proactively advises supervisor of restocking needs for supplies and performs periodic campus-wide quality inspections and develops work orders as needed.
  • Affords assistance to outside contractors as needed.
  • Reports concerns with contractor work to their supervisor to ensure work is being completed safely and professionally.
  • Affords assistance to Facilities Managers and Supervisors and others as assigned, with general projects and maintenance work in support of supporting trades and contractors at the Hyde Park campus.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three (3) years of experience in carpentry trades.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Qualifications

  • Finish cabinetry and/or furniture fabrication.
  • Experience working in a commercial kitchen or equivalent industrial equipment environment.
  • Certifications in mechanical lift operations (scissor and boom).
  • Completed a formal apprenticeship.
  • Certified in OSHA 10 or higher.

Skills

  • Must be able to read plans and carry them out using the tools of the trade.
  • Must have working knowledge of carpentry, furniture repair, tile work, sheet-rocking/taping, painting, and wallpapering.
  • Demonstrated ability to show a high level of service responsiveness to customers.
  • Able to multi-task and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work overtime on nights and weekends as required by business needs.
  • Under special circumstances may be required to temporarily work on different shifts or off hours and report to various supervisors based upon the needs of the Institute.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures, either hot or cold; temperatures can have a wide range including from -10 F to +120 F.
  • Required to work outdoors, sometimes in extreme winter temperatures; in electrical rooms, crawl spaces and confined areas.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands to grasp, handle and feel materials, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and taste or smell.
  • Must be able to supply initial set of hand tools.
  • Must be able to supply initial pair of safety toe work shoe/boot.

Pay

The hiring rate for this position is $30.00 per hour.

Schedule

Must be able to work overtime on nights and weekends as required by business needs.
