About the role

The Carpenter will perform tasks such as measuring, cutting, constructing, installing, repairing, and modifying wood, composite, and wood substitute items. Duties include applying standard measurements, specifications, and instructions, setting up and operating a variety of woodworking machines and tools, assembling items with various joining techniques, and interpreting drawings and blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Measure, cut, and construct wood, composite, and wood substitute items
  • Install and repair frame structures, decks, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding, and scaffolds
  • Operate a wide variety of woodworking machines and tools
  • Assemble items using various joining techniques and glues/adhesives
  • Install and replace interior partitions, flooring, panels, suspended ceilings, counter tops, and moldings
  • Interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications independently
  • Plan and carry out projects from initial layout to completion

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Thorough knowledge of wood and wood substitute materials and construction techniques
  • Skilled in the operation of general and precision carpentry and woodworking equipment
  • Able to determine the proper grade, size, and type of lumber or wood substitute material required for the job
  • Ability to read and interpret data
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as walking, running, climbing, crawling, jumping, enduring extreme climate conditions, and working in an outdoor setting

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must have military service with an honorable discharge
  • Must have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Must have the ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, running, climbing, crawling, jumping, enduring extreme climate conditions, and working in an outdoor setting

Skills

  • Knowledge of wood and wood substitute materials and construction techniques
  • Proficiency in the operation of general and precision carpentry and woodworking equipment
  • Ability to interpret complex instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building codes
  • Ability to determine the proper grade, size, and type of lumber or wood substitute material required for the job
  • Ability to read and interpret data
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment by lubricating machines, changing and sharpening saw blades, and adjusting drive belt tensions
  • Ability to mill heavy lumber, cut bevels, rabbets, chamfers, grooves, and compound miter joints, and apply plastic laminates to wood and other surfaces on counter tops, cabinets, desk tops, and tables
