Responsibilities
- Construct, install, repair, and modify wood and wood substitute structures and building components.
- Measure, cut, and assemble materials for scaffolding, concrete forms, drywall, roof decking, pallets, panels, and other carpentry projects.
- Install and repair walls, doors, windows, staircases, rafters, framing, trim, cabinets, trusses, and beams.
- Perform interior and exterior finish carpentry, remodeling, renovation, and repair work.
- Plan and lay out carpentry projects using standard construction methods and precision woodworking techniques.
- Install metal wall framing, drop ceilings, and related building systems.
- Perform basic concrete and masonry work in support of construction and maintenance projects.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to complete assigned work.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and woodworking equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a safe work environment while following all federal safety regulations and facility procedures.
Qualifications
- In accordance with federal regulations, possession of a valid Real ID is a requirement for this position.
- Minimum of 3 years of commercial, institutional, industrial, or healthcare carpentry experience.
- Experience constructing, repairing, and modifying framing, walls, doors, windows, staircases, trim, cabinetry, trusses, and structural components.
- Experience with drywall installation and repair, metal stud framing, and suspended (drop) ceiling systems.
- Knowledge of concrete and basic masonry construction techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and construction specifications.
- Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking equipment common to the carpentry trade.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, and at elevated heights.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and perform physically demanding work for extended periods, including standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Ability to work in hot environments and around dust, machinery, chemicals, and other occupational hazards.
- Ability to wear an OSHA-approved respirator when required and successfully complete required fit testing.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe boots, eye protection, hearing protection, and approved face protection.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred.
- Ability to comply with all applicable federal safety regulations and workplace policies.
- Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; please note the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation.
Pay
The pay for this position is expected to be $20.97 per hour plus an additional $5.09/hr for Health and Welfare totaling $26.06/hr. The benefits are 11 paid federal holidays per year, and 56 hours of annual accrued Sick Leave (equivalent to 7 paid days off).
Schedule
The schedule is not specified, but the position is expected to be ongoing and support ongoing maintenance operations at two federal medical facilities in Montgomery and Tuskegee, Alabama.
