About the Role
Perform general carpentry and cabinet making and installation functions; provides finished as well as rough carpentry.
Responsibilities
- Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures, fixtures, and cabinets of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools, conforming to local building codes.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to the type of material required.
- Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
- Prepares layout, using rule, framing square, and calipers.
- Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials, using pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
- Shapes materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, and planes; assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
- Verifies trueness of structure with carpenter’s level and other tools.
- Builds stairs; lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work.
- Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware such as locks and kick plates.
- Provides written estimates of cost for projects.
- Contacts vendors for cost of materials to prepare cost-effective estimates.
Requirements
- Good knowledge of carpentry methods and techniques.
- Good knowledge of masonry methods and techniques.
- Ability to review work orders and sketches to estimate the number of materials needed for projects.
- Ability to obtain bids for materials.
- Ability to purchase necessary building materials.
- Ability to perform carpentry work to cut, shape, assemble, install and repair building components.
- Ability to apply plaster, paint, and other protective coverings.
- Ability to attend work regularly and reliably.
- Skill in the operation of a variety of maintenance, power, hand and metalworking tools, and equipment.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in various county facilities with exposure to equipment noise and dust.
Qualifications
- Completion of high school or GED equivalency including vocational or trade school coursework in carpentry; considerable carpentry experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Requirements
- Must possess, or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Arkansas Driver's License.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
