Typical Duties
- Scaffold builders assemble and dismantle scaffolding structures to access specific parts of buildings for work.
- Build, position, and dismantle wooden structures like concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters according to sketches, blueprints, or company standards.
- Select and gather materials and tools, inspect base surfaces for obstructions, saw boards and plywood panels to required sizes, and use carpentry hand tools such as hammers, levels, squares, screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, hand and power saws, drill motors, and pry bars.
- Assemble scaffolds containing handrails, mid-rails, braces, planks, toe boards, screening, locking pins, and wheels according to job specifications.
- Load, transport, and unload material, determine scaffold types and proper installation instructions, oversee transport and erection of tubular scaffolds, secure scaffolding to permanent structures for added stability, supervise dismantling, inspect scaffolding, and store material after dismantling.
- Perform final inspections of completed scaffolding.
Requirements
- Carpenter experience.
- Ability to work at heights without fear.
- Examine, select, and gather materials and tools.
- Examine blueprints and specifications to determine dimensions of structures.
- Inspect base surfaces for obstructions.
- Saw boards and plywood panels to required sizes.
- Use carpentry hand tools such as hammers, levels, squares, screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, hand and power saws, drill motors, and pry bars.
- Assemble scaffold containing handrails, mid-rails, braces, planks, toe boards, screening, locking pins, and wheels to job specifications.
- Load, transport, and unload material.
- Determine type of scaffold needed and how to properly instruct on how to install.
- Oversight of transport tubular scaffold or other structural material and erecting the scaffold as instructed by the scaffold builder.
- Hoist scaffolding materials upward to erect temporary structures.
- Secure and level locking sections of scaffolding material.
- Secure scaffolding to the permanent structure for added stability.
- Supervise the dismantling of scaffolding when properly communicated.
- Inspect and properly stow scaffolding material after dismantling.
- Perform final inspection of completed scaffolding.
