About the role
This position performs carpentry, building and repairs in support of District construction and maintenance or Central Office buildings/facilities management.
Responsibilities
- Build and finish carpentry jobs such as form building, rough framing, and outside and inside finishing.
- Construct and repair the various buildings and bridges within the District.
- Aid in the training of subordinates in the techniques of carpentry.
- Construct and repair guard rails.
- Work on road crews.
- Load materials and perform building and yard maintenance.
- Remove snow and ice during inclement weather.
- Assist with emergency work (bridge breakthroughs, accidents, etc.) as needed.
Requirements
- Ability to read blueprints and perform basic mathematics.
- Demonstrated skill and knowledge of carpentry techniques.
- Valid Driver's License.
Qualifications
- Pass the written portion of the exam for a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with tanker (“N”) endorsement within 90 calendar days of hire.
- Pass the driving portion of the CDL exam within 180 calendar days of hire.
- Meet the physical and mental requirements for a CDL.
Skills
- Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, and to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
