Cargo Warehouse Manager on Duty

Leads front-line supervisory personnel within the airport gateways’ assigned functional area and acts as liaison between first-level supervisors and senior management. Proactively monitors staffing levels and employee activity to ensure customer satisfaction, safety, security, quality, and employee relations meet or exceed standards. Participates in hiring, training, coaching, counseling, discipline, and termination of associates while ensuring compliance with company rules, governmental regulations, and customer contractual agreements. Ensures the facility meets budgetary controls and staffing requirements and that all policy and management practices are delivered fairly and equitably.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, directs, and participates in warehouse and cargo ramp handling services to ensure all operational requirements are met.
• Directs and trains assigned agents, including new employee training and ongoing in-service training (monthly compliance and yearly safety training). Maintains required training records.
• Implements departmental policy for operations and advises Gateway General Manager/Assistant General Manager on policy issues, including recommendations and decisions for more efficient operations.
• Coordinates warehouse and cargo ramp handling activities with air carrier personnel, gateway management, and regulatory agencies.
• Operates and trains on various equipment, including k-loaders, baggage tugs and carts, belt loaders, electric carts, lavatory carts, portable water carts, air starts, towbars, and portable stairs.
• Ensures equipment is maintained in good working order and complies with FAA, TSA, business partner, and air carrier regulations.
• Implements operational changes as directed and attends regular and as-needed meetings.
• Maintains emergency checklists and supplies, and prepares/submits verbal and written reports related to service activities.
• Updates Multi-User Flight Information Display System (MUFIDS) and coordinates communications between airport, airline dispatch, and flight captain (e.g., manifests, weight/balance, fueling, on/off times, uplift, flight release, weather).
• Handles operational recaps, daily reporting, audits, inventory, ordering supplies, and correcting/updating timekeeping data.
• Completes all required training and reports safety hazards or incidents immediately.

Physical Demands

• Performs bending, squatting, kneeling, walking, climbing, and reaching from ground level to overhead.
• Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 75 pounds (e.g., luggage, packages) in confined aircraft cargo spaces or on/off conveyor belts.
• Ability to ascend to 40 feet for aircraft de-icing.
• Responds to audio alarms and distinguishes colors (e.g., aircraft wingtip lights, instrument panel lights).
• May stand for long periods and work in extreme weather conditions (indoors/outdoors).

Work Environment

• Exposure to extreme weather, dust, pollen, mechanical/electrical/chemical hazards, and toxic waste.
• Constant and extreme noise, strong odors, fumes, and poor lighting (night work).
• Possible exposure to disease due to aircraft lavatory work.

Qualifications

• 2 years of hands-on experience in cargo, distribution, logistics, airline, or similar industry.
• Must complete initial/advanced air carrier training within 90 days.
• Thorough working knowledge of aircraft types, FAA/TSA security directives, and warehouse/cargo ramp operations.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Must obtain/maintain a Ground Security Coordinator certificate (for aircraft over 61 seats) within 90 days or possess De-Icing/Anti-Icing, aircraft pushback, and security search certificates upon hire.
• Must pass a background investigation (fingerprint-based criminal records check) per TSA regulations.
• Must pass periodic random drug testing as required for safety-sensitive employees.
• Ability to work varied shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins.
