About the role
The Caregiver provides compassionate, reliable, and client-centered support services designed to enhance each client's quality of life, independence, and overall well-being. This position emphasizes the safety, comfort, and dignity of clients by assisting with daily living activities, promoting healthy routines, and fostering positive social interaction. The Caregiver is responsible for maintaining a safe physical environment, supporting mental and emotional health through attentive communication, and encouraging meaningful engagement to reduce isolation and promote happiness. All services are delivered with respect, professionalism, and a strong commitment to protecting the client’s physical, mental, and social well-being.
Responsibilities
- Prepare meals observing any dietary restrictions or preferences.
- Perform light housekeeping such as laundry, cleaning, organizing, and maintaining a safe, clutter-free home environment.
- Encourage client mobility and healthiness.
- Monitor and remind clients to take prescribed medications, without administering or dispensing drugs.
- Provide companionship, engage in meaningful conversation, and participate in recreational or social activities to reduce isolation and support emotional wellness.
- Aid in transportation to appointments, errands, shopping, or social outings.
- Alert supervisor or family members to changes in condition, safety hazards, or any concerns impacting physical or mental health.
- Maintain accurate records of care provided, activities, and observations as required by agency policies or the client’s service plan.
- Respect client confidentiality and adhere to professional standards of conduct at all times.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age.
- Clean background check, clean drug screen (cocaine, PCP, amphetamines, opiates), clean driving record, access to a safe and insured vehicle, a negative TB test.
- Ability to pass First Aid and CPR certification (we will provide).
- Basic literacy and communication skills to follow care plans and document services provided.
- Prior experience is preferred but not always required; many agencies provide on-the-job training under supervision.
- Physical ability to assist with mobility and household tasks as required by the role.
- Most importantly, compassion, patience, reliability, a focus on client dignity, and a desire to be of service to others.
